Strong and lean, in the garden,
She’s hard at work.
Good book. Rocking chair.
Every night, by the lamplight,
she reads a word.
I see her there, in my memory,
Like the tall grass she’s waving in the breeze.

Out on the front porch she greets me
With a smile and a hug.
Dancing in the kitchen she treats me
ato her special joy and her love.

Take me back. In memory.
To the path that she walks on.
She treads my dreams,
Warm eyes. Wise hands.
I think that face is the kindest
I’ve ever seen.
Shining here, in my memory,
She’s the bright spark that shows me what love means.

Old blue car seat in the backyard,
I see her there beneath that tree.
Apricot jam down in the cellar,
she picks one out just for me.
